January 18—It's "Fuck you," not "@#$%! you."
Today's entry is blacked out in protest against SOPA and PIPA. The Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act will censor the Internet and slow economic growth. Read more here.
Google and Wikipedia both are up in arms about the bills. Much as I dislike Wikipedia, I'm with them on protesting SOPA and PIPA. I'm not sure if a blackout is the way to go (Why protest censorship with censorship?) but I guess that's the point. I'm all for free knowledge, even free bullshit like Wikipedia. There's a reason my knitting patterns and recipes are free: I don't believe in charging for knowledge. More practically, I know from personal experience that knitting patterns and recipes can be reverse engineered by a skilled knitter or cook, but even if that were not so, I would not charge for information. I know what it is to be poor. More importantly, I know what it is to be curious. Curiosity should not be punished; it should be encouraged. If that means keeping the bullshit websites like Wikipedia open, then so be it, but damned if anyone should be charged money for the sin of wanting to learn something.
In other words, Congress, fuck censorship and fuck you.

Don't look at me like that; that's what the Silver Fox says. He's contagious. He's also got me playing Scrabble obsessively and reading food ingredients lists to check to see how real what I'm eating is. That reminds me, I've updated . . . continued

     December 9—House Hunting
Lately I've been helping the Silver Fox house hunt, which has eaten up a lot of time. I'm not even the one who's house hunting, and I'm sick of it. I hope he finds something soon. I'm not really looking forward to helping him move in the cold . . . continued
