October 13—Tuesday's Gone

Tuesday the 25th I took Freefall to the vet for his shots, neutering, and microchipping. He howled horribly all the way there, which took a long time because I nearly couldn't find the damn place (they had no map or pictures on their site). I felt terrible for not being able to say goodbye to him before they took him away for surgery; I think he thought he was being abandoned again. But when I picked him up later in the day, I reassured him that I would never leave him.

I worked a load out at the Paramount a week ago. It was a short call, but as it went after midnight, the overtime should make a small difference. I've never worked there before; it's a small space, and the "loading dock" is a dark alley that reeks of hobo piss, but hey, it was work.

I found out that the last film on which I worked, One Bad Trip, has bitten the dust. Thank God. Low budget horror films are all well and good if they have a decent story or at least special effects, but this one had neither. It was quite embarrassing really, so it's a relief that it's over.

I'm working on a new story. Not Splatwarts, which has again been temporarily abandoned due to editing problems, but rather an alien abduction story. It's the first story I've written entirely on the computer; the others were all first done longhand and then typed/revised. This one I'm typing in Word and will then convert to HTML and post. I'm excited about it—aside from being a welcome return to aliens and such, it's also going to be my first-ever story featuring Nick! (For all two of you who don't know, Nick Cain is my closest friend; we met on the first day of ninth grade. Many people thought we were related, and finally we told people that we were.) Anyway, this story being written on the computer means that my old system of organization for the stories (sorted according to the notebook in which they were written) will no longer work, so I'll have to change the stories page again soon.

That reminds me, I've also not been working on the games for the stories section as intended. That's another project to be tackled soon, I think.

Meanwhile, my new account at OK Cupid is not going quite as badly as I'd feared. I've met a few interesting people through it, especially Henry. We met in person, and he lent me Christopher Hitchens's God Is Not Great, which I've been wanting to read. I've had to set aside my other reading (I recently bought a lot of Terry Pratchett) to focus on it. Anyway, I've been talking to a few other interesting people on there as well; I haven't had any super creepy MySpace-type incidents on there. Sadly, my best matches in Houston were a guy more than a foot taller than I, a Navy pilot, and a musician/retail clerk. *sigh* So I may delete that account upon moving.

October 31—Halloween is my favorite holiday.

I haven't been updating because work has been picking up. I had two GES calls and two calls at the Erwin Center. Oh, how I infinitely prefer the Erwin Center. I get to see the real Freefall, and my least favorite hand isn't allowed to work there anymore. Then I had to take Freefall to the vet again because he got in a fight and got a scratch on the inside of his eyelid, and his eye was swollen shut. Scary, but he'll be okay.

But, for the site: Besides work on the new story featuring Nick, I also have an idea for a story featuring my friend Adam, but I will have to change his name so no one from the union Googles into it and doesn't realize it's a joke.

I've been busy with a new knitting pattern, the first I've ever really designed. Well actually it's not, it's at least the fourth or fifth, but this one has required the most tampering. I'll post pix of the finished product if I ever succeed.

I've decided to stay on OK Cupid for at least a bit longer since I'm liking some of the people I've met on there. I met one of them, Kirston, tonight; it was Halloween, and he and his friend Chris came from Houston to see a show at La Zona Rosa. They and a few other people and I went downtown, but the show was sold out, so Kirston had to take me back home again. So I didn't really do anything for Halloween except waste other people's time. Oh, and while we were downtown, I saw, from the car, one of my coworkers from the Erwin Center. I told the others to pretend to know him if they saw him later and see how long it took him to realize he didn't actually know them.

Oh, and—most significantly—I've updated the pix section! I put up some new pix of Freefall and me (individually).

On an unrelated tangent, I cannot stop listening to La Renga's cover of Neil Young's "Hey Hey My My."

I'll update more after I've slept.
