January 12Theatre Work of Late Work has picked up a little lately, which would be better news if my car were working. I did video for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which involved seeing the end of the show. We were standing probably twenty feet away, but the pyro made it feel like we were in front of a bonfire. Then we moved immediately backstage, where it was a shower of sparks and soot. The load out was a madhouse, but I think it was worth it. I picked up a few tips on learning rigging, which may never happen for me, but at least I'm on the right track for the time being. The other day I worked at the Paramount, loading in for A Tuna Christmas. They put me on electrics, which was interesting since I've not done that before, and I didn't learn a whole lot, but it was nice to work in a real theatre. By that I mean, as opposed to the Erwin Center, where I worked again the other night, loading out for George Strait. All I did there was push road cases; nothing exciting. Speaking of theatre, I've been workingalbeit slowlyon the theatre section of the site. I've got the FAQ done, but I think I'm going to edit it a bit more. I'm also trying to put together some kind of resume-ish thing on there with all the gigs I've worked. Also, I want to include more stuff about how working in this industry actually works. In the meantime, I should be finding out more about moving in another week or two. It figures that I'd be moving back to Houston just as one of my favorite friends is likely leaving, either to tour with Phantom or to NYC looking to build a reputation as a good enough lighting designer that they'll fly him in to program Broadway. I wish him all the best, of course, but, well, DAMN. *sigh*
January 25More Pix, and the Theatre Section! I uploaded a couple of pictures of me in my red dress. The long-promised theatre section is finally up. There's not a lot there for now, but I finally got the damn thing posted anyway. I have also posted pix of the finally completed Klein bottle hat and Moebius scarf. I'm working on typing up the agonizingly complex patterns now. I've changed the knitting page slightly; the whole section is probably due for an overhaul. I'm going to get some more updates done in the next month or so before I movethat's right; move! I'm moving into my friends Kirston and Matt's place, rent free for a few months while I get some work going in Houston. I really really really hate the idea of being a moocher, but I will be making up for my expenses by cooking and cleaning, plus I plan to repay them when I can. I plan to move the first week of March. I hope by that time I'll have plenty more new stuff on the site to keep my two faithful readers occupied while I'm sorting stuff out down there.
