I got a job at a local comic book store, Third Planet. The pay is terrible, but hey, it's a job. It's completely mindless and I spend most of my time either dusting or alphabetizing comics. Honestly, housework is more complicated than that. On the upside, it's fairly laid back and I'm earning money (albeit not much) for doing next to nothing. Anyway, work has begun with the union. Saturday I worked a load out at the Houston Grand Opera at the Wortham. I made a couple of friends, one of whom is interested in getting to know my roommate Kirston since they're both really into politics. I might possibly be working there again tomorrow, but that's doubtful. Maybe in a few weeks. Things are probably going to go very slowly, though. In other news, the kitten I rescued when I first moved in is now doing remarkably well at my dad's house. He's still unnamed, contrary to my many suggestions. He's growing rapidly, and he and Freefall are now good friends. One of the strays had kittens again, but they will all be going to animal control once they get old enough, I hope along with their mother. I'm sure they will be euthanized, but sooner that than dying in agony like one did a few weeks ago. One of Kirston's friends spotted a kitten in the front yard, and I brought it inside and offered it food and water, which it rejected, and so I called the SPCA. They said they'd send their 24-hour rescue service to pick him up, but they never showed up. I kept going to check on the kitten, and finally I checked on him one last time, and he was dead. I screamed and ran outside crying, and after a minute Kirston came outside and hugged me and comforted me and took care of the corpse for me. *sigh* It was a thoroughly unpleasant experience that I've no desire to repeat. I hope this next batch will fare better. I've abandoned the idea of knitting two socks at once; I didn't like the way they were turning out. Instead I went ahead and started the two sleeves at once, plus I got out a blanket I started some time ago and would love to finish. I may start the blanket for Igby soon, too, and/or some summery clothes for myself. I've got a couple of new items on the conversations page. I really need to get back to working on the ARSE section, plus finally doing something with the long-discussed blog section.
Yeah, so, I'm moving again. Back to Austin. It's a long story; suffice it to say I do not get along with my other roommate Matt. This is fairly annoying since work was just getting started with the union here. I worked at the Wortham once, which was thoroughly awesome, and also at the Hilton last Saturday, which sucked but beat Third Planet. I mean the hours were too long and I didn't know what I was doing, but the pay was better and the LD was oddly cute. Oh well. I'll be back in Houston sooner or later. So, my immediate plan upon moving back to Austin is to try one last time to get my car repaired. I really extremely don't want to since it's a damn sinkhole, but my dad wants to. Personally, I'd rather say the hell with it and sell it and/or use my savings to buy a new car. We'll see. Anyway. Yesterday I took some pictures of Igby (Kirston's corgi) and posted them here. He's cute and sweet. The dog's not bad, either.
