October 3—October is the best month.

I've always loved the month of October. I love the cooler weather, I love wearing my long-sleeved shirts, I love raking the yard, I love cooking fall-themed dishes, and I especially love Halloween. I have lots of Halloween decorations and put them up today. It was a fairly fall-themed day: I raked the yard and took a chainsaw to a couple of old Christmas trees that have been cluttering up the back yard for ages. I wanted them gone because Bolie (the little cat) isn't used to being outside yet, and when he does go out, he tends to hide in the dead Christmas trees and not want to come out. So I got out the chainsaw and eliminated the problem. The Christmas trees, I mean, not Bolie. Anyway, now my hands are sore, but at least I accomplished something.

I'm working on the sleeves of the Obama sweater now; I'm confident it will be finished by the election. I have an idea for another hat, but it will need a lot of sketching before I can begin work. I really want to make something with this terrifically soft yarn I saw at Hobby Lobby called Yarn Bee Cameo (Yarn Bee is the brand; Cameo is the specific yarn), but the color selection is regrettably dismal.

With any luck, tomorrow I'll be able to update the political blog once I've finished the chores I didn't today. I had a lot of laundry to do and didn't because the chainsawing took longer than expected. I might also write and post the pattern for the Obama sweater.

October 12—A Fleeting Update

I've started working at Borders; my schedule is quite full these days. It's only seasonal work, but still. The next couple of months will be quite crowded, at least until the Linens 'N Things job goes away—yep. Linens 'N Things changed ownership a couple of years ago, and the quality of the merchandise has gone down since then. LNT filed for bankruptcy protection in May of this year, with a plan to emerge by early 2009. Apparently that plan failed, though, because on the 15th of this month, the company is going up for auction. We might get bought out by another company, but since it's unlikely that anyone will want to buy a company with that much debt, we will probably get liquidated instead. Thusly, I'm glad I have the Borders job, even if it's only seasonal. I will be doing some job hunting pretty soon, in what little spare time I can scrape together.

I recently learned how to operate a chainsaw. It wasn't something I particularly wanted to learn, but it's a useful skill, even if my hands and arms did get a bit sore. Fitness fail.

I've updated the political blog, albeit only briefly. I'll probably post several weeks' worth of retroactive entries in a few days. Right now I have to get ready to go to the Erwin Center; I'm crewing the load out for some damn dance show or something.
