Yes indeed, October is my favorite month. The weather begins to cool, and the end of the month brings with it my favorite holiday, Halloween. I'm still debating on costume ideas. My Playboy Bunny costume arrived today; but it was the wrong size and will have to be exchanged. But I think, provided the correct size arrives in time, that will be the one I wear at the end of this month. That reminds me, I plan to be in Houston on or near Halloween. I'm working a show the night before, so it's more likely I'll be in town around November 1st for a day of fun and games (involving the Playboy Bunny outfit) with a friend I haven't seen in a while (ahem). Incidentally, I'll be on the southeast side, if any of y'all want to hang out, though I'll be changing out of aforementioned outfit beforehand. Work has been picking up for me a bit lately; I worked the Journey show at the Erwin Center the other night, and I worked the load in for ACL the next day. This week I'm working at the convention center, and there's another show at the Erwin Center a couple of weeks after that.
October 11Just News Again, No Real Updates I had a busy week. I worked a show at the Erwin Center, ACL the next day, and then a week at the convention center. I'm extremely glad that's over with. I loathe working at the convention center and only did so for the money. Thursday was the last day at the convention center, and after I left, I stopped by the UT campus for a cup of tea at the Cactus Café, after which I visited my friend Henry during his office hours. I arrived in the hallway in RLM and heard him with a student, so I resolved to wait a few minutes outside the door until she left. Then I heard the student ask, "Pi is a constant, right?" I cringed and thought, "This'll take a while," and I retreated down the hall to read until she left. *sigh* But it was nice seeing him. It reminded me that I need to knit him a projective plane hat to go with the Moebius scarf and Klein bottle hat I already made him. Anyway, before I visited that tangent, I was going to mention that I'm going to be in Houston in a couple of weeks, around the 23rd. I plan on hanging around through the weekend to visit friends, one of whom will be enjoying the view of my Playboy Bunny costume. He plans to take photographs (not so much for everyone's enjoyment as much as proof that it actually happened, because I will try to deny it).
October 21Real Updates and News I've revamped the recipes section. There's a bit of new stuff, but mostly I just reorganized it, cleaned up the code, and fixed a couple of broken links. I have updated the story of the Science Teacher in ARSE. Speaking of ARSE, I have decided to begin, at my friend Chris's suggestion, a new section within it called Dishonorable Mentions. This section is devoted to stories that aren't long enough to deserve a full story in ARSE. I've updated the books and books wish list pages since I've finished a couple of books and bought a couple more recently. My trend in reading these last few months has been Dumas and Pratchett, but I just bought two Philip K. Dick novels. I worked the load in for Spring Awakening the other night. When I left the theatre, I spied a young couple in the parking garage making out. It was the least sensual thing I've ever had the misfortune to witnessIt was so bad, in fact, that it sparked a rant on How to Make Out. I've updated klutzy incidents through October, plus I've posted on the political blog. I'm going to Houston at the end of this week. I'm stopping by my late grandfather's place to check on stuff and retrieve a few things to give to Kirston, whom I hope to see on the way back from mutual friend Dom's show. I'm also going to visit a friend who's going to photograph me in my Halloween costume, so look forward to pix of that when I get back.
As I said in my last update, I'm going to Houston this weekend. I am writing this Friday morning. If you're reading this any later than early next week, tell somebody to drag the Houston Ship Channel since that's probably where I (and my car of questionable reliability) wound up. Anyway, yes, my trip means*gasp*I won't be online this weekend. Before the pants-wetting panic begins, though, I should point out that I have updated Bad Knitting to keep y'all occupied till I get back. I realize it's been a while since I updated that section, which is fairly popular, and I got inspired when I emailed Phil Plait the other day. As I think y'all know, I shamelessly thieved the concept of Bad Knitting from his Bad Astronomy site. I emailed him to tell him so, and (contrary to my expectations), he replied the very next day and (even further contrary to my expectations) found the section hilarious rather than appalling. I then felt a tad ashamed of only having three things there, so I posted two new pages. I now present to you the Bad Potholder and the Bad Belt. Also, in less exciting news, I finally got around to updating the archives to repair broken links; that should take care of some of the hits my error page receives. As hilarious as I think my error page is, I don't want it to get more attention than the rest of the site. Now. I'm off to Houston. Cross your fingers. Actually, don't. I despise superstition.
Halloween, as y'all have to know by now, is my favorite holiday. This year I dressed as a Playboy Bunny since I thought it made an ironic statement regarding women dressing like sluts on Halloween. Also, it looked hot. Since my computer won't recognize my camera, I got a friend to take pictures for me, which proved complicated since not only does he live in Houston, but he has a girlfriend who would likely not approve if she found out. Luckily, nothing happened. Anyway, while I was in Houston, I stopped by my late grandfather's place to pick up some stuff, plus I visited Kirston. All in all, it was a good trip, except I started feeling sick during the course of the evening. I was coughing quite a bit on the drive back to Austin; I really hope I'm not gearing up for the stagehand flu that's been going around. Speaking of updates in the pix section, though, I've fixed a couple of broken links. For God's sake, people, if you see a broken link, click "Contact Me" and tell me. Anyway, I've also updated klutzy incidents. Anyway, I worked the load in for Spring Awakening last night, which went well. Tomorrow I'm working So You Think You Can Dance at the Erwin Center, by which I expect to be annoyed. I'm looking forward to working the AC/DC show next week, though.
October 30Uninteresting Tidbits I worked So You Think You Can Dance at the Erwin Center the other night. Much as I dislike the show, I really enjoyed working on the video crew although I prefer audio. The roadies were amiable, and I worked with a couple of my favorite people. On that note, I've updated the theatre gigs page, not that anybody really reads that. Also in other sections of the site that nobody reads, I've updated the books and books wish list pages. Anyway, I've updated the political blog and klutzy incidents. Now. As I feared, I came down with the flu; if my next few updates suck, that will be the reason. I'm off to bed now.
Happy Halloween, dorks. Watch The Legend of Sleepy Hollow or die in a fire. I've updated ARSE with the story of the PhD Candidate. Yeah, it's another story about a creepy guy rather than the preferred self-deprecating fare, but that's okay; I'm cooking up a doozy to post in a few weeks.
