March 5—CTS sucks.

I haven't been able to update lately for a variety of reasons, the major one of which is carpal tunnel syndrome. I at first typed "crap tunnel syndrome," which is indeed far more accurate. I've had my wrists in splints and resorted to the hunt and peck method for typing. I bought an ergonomic keyboard, which is a bit clunky and not as easy to type one-handed on, but it feels better. Of course, CTS also means I haven't been knitting or playing piano, so I've not felt very useful these last couple of weeks. However, not being able to enjoy my hobbies cleared the way for me to work on replacing my book collection. Thanks to insurance money, I've spent a fortune at Half Price Books and Goodwill over the last two weeks on new books. It's a long and painful process, but I've managed to replace most of my collection, and all my new books are now neatly (ha) catalogued and stacked in my closet. Said closet is, naturally, on the other side of the wall of my bathroom, so if a pipe bursts in there, I will have to go through this all over again. I really need to read more. College pretty much killed reading for pleasure for me; it took a couple of years for me to get back into it, and then between writing for the site and knitting, I just never got as interested in it as I was before, even though I still love a good story and get completely sucked into books.

Work is picking up a bit. I'm working a couple of calls at Bass Concert Hall and the Erwin Center over the next couple of weeks, but I'm still considering a career change. An ex-stagehand told me that stagehands taught him how to work the unemployment system, which is not a future I want. I may return to A/V tech work. We'll see.

I've updated klutzy incidents and the political blog.

March 17—Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, all. I spent mine at work. Then I gave a friend a ride home, and I hung out a bit there to enjoy a Guinness before returning home and crashing. I only worked an hour, but the last two weeks have been fairly intense, and I'll be playing catch up with my sleep for a few days yet.

As implied above, I've spent most of the last two weeks at work. I did the load out for Fiddler on the Roof on a Sunday night, returned the next day at noon to load in The Phantom of the Opera advance stuff, and did the load out for John Mayer that night. I spent half of that Tuesday asleep and the rest of it doing chores and running errands. Wednesday I did the load in for Taylor Swift, during which some jackass ran into the back of my foot with a road case. I put ice on it and soaked it in Epsom salts when I got home. The stage manager filled out an accident report and gave me a card to take to the doctor in case I go, but it seems to be fine. Badly bruised, and I'll be limping for a while, but fine. It could have been worse; one of my coworkers told me he'd snapped his Achilles tendon when Elton John's piano fell on it. That brightened my day by contrast. I asked that same coworker, who is a good hand, if he'd ever worked at Bass Concert Hall (he had not) and told him to call over there. I'm picky about whom I give work numbers to, but I have confidence in him. Anyway, I did the out for Taylor Swift that night, and then I got an hour of sleep before working for Phantom the next day. Then I came home and slept for sixteen hours. I took a few days off convalescing (I bought a cane to help with my bruised foot), and then I went back to Bass for the real load in for Phantom, which ended yesterday. I only worked for an hour yesterday, but I will be getting paid for four. I love minimums. Anyway, I now have a week or so to recover before the out for Phantom, soon to be followed by another rock show at the Erwin Center.

I have plenty of plans for how to occupy my time off, provided my foot will cooperate. I'm going to move my plants outside, plus I'm working on organizing the house a bit more. My own things are mostly the way they should be, but my dad clutters up the living room regularly, so I want to get a DVD binder and a magazine rack or small basket or something. I also want to continue rebuilding my book collection, and if the weather remains warm enough, I want to spray paint a couple of wire baskets I use for storage in my bathroom.

In the meantime, my carpal tunnnel syndrome has just about cleared up. Just in time for me to be hobbling around on a cane. Oh well.

I've updated the political blog and klutzy incidents. Due to the ongoing book project, I've also updated the books list and wish list in the reading section. I've also updated the gigs page in the theatre section.
