Clean the checkerboard and checkers thoroughly. They should be free of dust and polished.
Hot glue the checkers into place on the checkerboard. They do not have to be perfectly aligned unless you wish it. I didn't bother since the checkers were never perfectly aligned when I was using the board for its intended purpose, and I thought aligning them might have looked a little unnatural.
Leave the checkerboard overnight to make sure the glue is thoroughly dried.
Flip the checkerboard over, taking care not to knock the checkers off. Use a ruler to mark where you want the picture hanger. I wanted my checkerboard to hang diagonally, so I centered my picture hanger on the corner. Then I hung another hanger on the adjacent corner so I could hang the checkerboard with either the light or dark checkers closest to the top.
Hold the checkerboard perpendicular to the ground with the bottom facing you, with the bottom corner or edge on a flat surface. Use a level to make sure your marks for the picture hanger are in place. Use a pencil to mark the correct place for the hanger.
Line up the hanger to the pencil marks and hammer the picture hanger in place. The checkerboard is now ready to hang.
Of course, you may wish to attach the picture hanger first if you are afraid hammering it into place will dislodge the checkers, but I wanted the back of the board flat for gluing the checkers in place.
