How to Fold a Fitted Sheet
Folding a fitted sheet can be a real bitch. On top of being large, they don't have neat corners and can end up a disgraceful lump. However, there's a trick to tucking in those elasticized corners that enables neat folding.
- First, shake out the fitted sheet and spread it out so that the long side is perpendicular to you:
- You will be folding it in half lengthwise along the crease represented by the dotted line below. The trick is tucking the corners into each other.
- Grasp the elasticized lower left corner and tuck it neatly into the pocket formed by the elastic of the upper left corner. Repeat on the right side.
- Now you should have a long piece with the lower corners tucked into the upper ones.
- You will make a similar fold widthwise along the indicated crease.
- Fold the sheet in half across the crease. Tuck the right hand corners (as one layer) into the left hand corners, pushing the right corners into the pocket formed by the left ones. Math the bottom right hand corner evenly to the bottom left hand corner.
- All four corners are now matched.
- Now you will smooth out the elastic edging, since your sheet more closely resembles the following than the above.
- First you will fold down the top along the seam indicated below. Smooth out the corners before folding any further. To accomplish this in the upper left corner, simply tent the fabric a bit and tuck it further into the corner.
- Fold down the top.
- You should have only one rough edge remaining.
- Now you will fold over the left hand side. Again, you may wish to smooth out the corners before folding.
- Fold over the left side.
- Finally, all the rough edges have been folded into place.
- You now have an easy to work with rectangle. Fold it in half a few more times till it is small enough to fit into your closet, et voilà! You now have one neatly folded fitted sheet.
