Knitting Links

Afghans for Afghans is a charity knitting project; the name rather speaks for itself.
Lion Brand—My favorite yarn.  Wool-Ease is a soft, affordable, machine washable wool-acrylic blend available in a variety of colors, except white.  Stupid.  Also, Homespun is a delightfully soft bulky yarn that's great for shawls and blankets.  Anyway, Lion Brand also has some good how-to instructions for beginning knitters, though I'd recommend searching other sites for more advanced stuff or alternative methods.
Patons Yarns—This is my other favorite yarn.  It is also soft, affordable, machine washable, and available in a wide variety of colors.
Knitty—A lot of these patterns are frivolous or trendy, but there are some good patterns for tank tops and other stuff appropriate to a hot climate.  As I live in Texas, there are only so many sweaters I can knit, and cotton or microspun yarns are great for little lightweight sleeveless shirts.
Knitting Pattern Central—This is the most thorough collection of free knitting patterns I've found yet.  They also mark the ones that are in PDF format or require registration to view.
Meredith Davey—She knits intricate patterns on tiny needles, especially gloves.  Also, she's an astrophysicist, which is link worthy in itself.
School House Press—Carrying on the work of the late, great Elizabeth Zimmerman, School House Press is a veritable haven of yarns, books, knitting tools, patterns, and even knitting jewelry.
