Bulky Beret Pattern




Materials:  
Needles:   #6 dpns
  #8 16" circular (optional)
  #8 dpns
Yarn:   1 skein Lion Brand Homespun in the color of your choice
Other Materials:   11 place markers

Gauge:
3.5 stitches per inch
5 rows per inch

Pattern:

With smaller needles, cast on 66 sts.  (Increase or decrease the number of sts in multiples of 11 for a larger or smaller beret. Alternatively, you could use a smaller or larger needle size.)  Join, being careful not to twist work.  Place marker to indicate end of round.

Work in K1P1 rib for at least 1¼ inches or as long as you want the brim to be.  K 1 rnd.

Switch to larger needles.

(K11, pm) arnd.

Increases:
Rnd 1:  (Knit to marker, inc 1, slip marker); repeat arnd—72 sts.
Rnd 2 and all even rnds:  K even.
Rnd 3:  Repeat Rnd 1—78 sts.
Rnd 5:  Repeat Rnd 1—84 sts.
Rnd 7:  Repeat Rnd 1—90 sts.
Rnd 9:  Repeat Rnd 1—96 sts.

K 2 rnds even.

Decreases:
(Change to dpns as needed.)
Rnd 1:  (Knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker); repeat arnd—90 sts.
Rnd 2 and all even rnds:  K even.
Rnd 3:  Repeat Rnd 1—84 sts.
Rnd 5:  Repeat Rnd 1—78 sts.
Rnd 7:  Repeat Rnd 1—72 sts.
Rnd 9:  Repeat Rnd 1—66 sts.
Rnd 11:  Repeat Rnd 1—60 sts.
Rnd 13:  Repeat Rnd 1—54 sts.
Rnd 15:  Repeat Rnd 1—48 sts.
Rnd 17:  Repeat Rnd 1—42 sts.
Rnd 19:  Repeat Rnd 1—36 sts.
Rnd 21:  Repeat Rnd 1—30 sts.
Rnd 23:  Repeat Rnd 1—24 sts.
Rnd 25:  Repeat Rnd 1—18 sts.
Rnd 27:  Repeat Rnd 1—12 sts.
Rnd 29:  K2tog arnd—6 sts.

Cut off long end of yarn and thread it through remaining 6 sts and pull tight.  Block; weave in all ends.
