Ears
Lay hat flat. Starting about ¾" down from the top of the hat, pick up and knit 12 sts down the side towards the brim. Work 2 rows in seed st, garter st, etc. (the same pattern st you used for working the brim).
Next row: (k1, k2tog), pattern stitch to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.
Next row: Seed stitch 1 row plain.
Next row: Work rows 1 and 2 until there are 4 stitches left.
Next row: K1, k2tog, k1, turn. K1, k2tog, turn.
Next row: K2tog.
Next row: Break yarn, pull through last st, weave in end.
At the base of this ear, pick up 12 stitches exactly as before. You are creating a double ear for extra strength so it will stand up. When complete, sew the two ear halves together and weave in ends.
Repeat for other ear.
