Needles: 16" #9 circular needle (optional)
  #9 double pointed needles
  #9 straight needles
Yarn: 1 skein Lion Brand Vanna's Choice, kelly green
Other Materials: 1 place marker
  1 cable needle

Gauge:
4 stitches per inch
6 rows per inch

Stitch Explanation:
K—knit
P—purl
st(s)—stitch(es)
St st—stockinette stitch
arnd—around
rnd—round
K2tog—knit two together


Pattern:
Cast on 14 sts. Place marker to indicate end of round.
Begin chart.

Work chart till piece is just under circumference of head—roughly 14 repeats. (Remember, hats should have a small amount of negative ease.) Upon completion of the chart, cast off.

Turn the piece sideways and, using circular needles, pick up and knit 1 st per row—112 sts if you had 14 repeats; otherwise you should have a multiple of 8 sts on the needles. K6, K2tog arnd—98 sts.

Work in St st till piece measures 5 inches. Begin decreases.

Decreases:
Rnd 1: (K5, K2tog) around—84 sts.
Rnd 2 and all even rnds: K.
Rnd 3: (K4, K2tog) around—70 sts.
Rnd 5: (K3, K2tog) around—56 sts.
Rnd 7: (K2, K2tog) around—42 sts.
Rnd 9: (K1, K2tog) around—28 sts.
Rnd 11: (K2tog) around—14 sts.
Rnd 15: (K2tog) around—7 sts.

Cut off long end of yarn and thread it through remaining 7 sts and pull tight. Block; weave in all ends.
