Gauge: Not that important for a shawl, but if you wish: ~2.25 stitches per inch ~4.25 rows per inch Stitch Explanation: Kknit YOyarn over Notes: These instructions are for a medium-sized sock. To make a smaller or larger size, adjust your needle size accordingly. Don't forget that the length may also vary. I have included instructions for how to graft the toe stitches together. There are different methods of doing this; this is the one that works best for me. I strongly recommend that, whichever method you prefer, you finish the toe of the sock without any outside interruption. It won't take more than a few minutes, but skipping a step can completely fuck up the toe.
You will use one piece of fringe in every space along the edges of the shawl; i.e., everywhere there was a yarn over in the pattern, you will place one piece of fringe. (Tip: There should be about as many holes as there were sts on the needles when you cast off.) Using an 8-inch-wide piece of cardboard or a book, wrap yarn around as many times as you need pieces of fringe and cut along one side. This will create a bunch of 16-inch long pieces of yarn to use as fringe.
Take one length of fringe, fold in half, and hold beneath one yarn over hole. Insert crochet hook if using, or just use your fingers, from front to back through the hole. Catch the crease in the middle of the length of fringe and draw through the hole. Draw the two long ends of the piece of fringe through the loop on the top and tighten. Repeat for every yarn over hole; also, place one additional piece of fringe at the bottom point of the shawl. Once all fringe has been tied in place, trim with scissors so it is all the same length. Go back over the trimmed fringe and tie an overhand knot at the ends of each piece to keep from fraying. Block; weave in loose ends. | ||||||||
