The Texas winter isn't all that intense. Before the coldest days of January set in, we first endure a lot of days where it's 50 degrees in the morning but 70 or 80 by the afternoon, meaning you end up carrying jackets around without wearing them much. In addition to that, I work in theatre, and some theatres are rather cold backstage, but the work is hot and sweaty, so sweaters and jackets can be impractical.
I decided to help remedy this problem with a pair of knitted arm warmers. I could wear them with a short sleeved shirt or over a long sleeved shirt and not have to carry a bulkier jacket around. Since I had a skein of red yarn in my stash along with some red ribbon that appeared out of nowhere, I decided to incorporate both in the pattern and leave little eyelets along the edges of the warmers so I could use the ribbon to lace up the sides corset style.
The result was a pair of red arm warmers with cute ribbon laces. In retrospect, I didn't really have to include eyelets in the pattern; I could have just threaded the ribbon through the edges of the warmers at spaced intervals, but I wanted it to be exact. Anyway, they definitely do the job. The only problem is that Bolie keeps trying to chew the ribbon.
