Peaceful Blanket

Peaceful

I knitted this blanket out of the Big Book of Quick Knit Afghans, only I made it slightly larger than the pattern specified. As with several other knitting pattern books, I bought it just because of this pattern, though several others were nice as well. This blanket pattern was analogous to the hit song on an album of duds, or the killer app that the early Macintosh lacked, if you will. (On an unrelated note, where do they come up with the titles for these things? "Peaceful" is a stupid name for a blanket. The other blankets in the book all had silly names too, like "Exquisite" or "Tea Time" or something. This is the reason all my knitting patterns have obvious, descriptive names that don't leave you guessing as to what the project looks like.)

Anyway, this blanket took forever to knit. Not so much because it was a big, difficult project—indeed, the pattern was easily memorized, and even though every other row was a cable row, the knitting went fairly quickly. It was just that I tended to set this project aside for weeks or even months at a time while I worked on other projects, including PAWP, the Future Blondes blanket, and some commissioned projects. Finally, when I found myself drowning in projects on the needles, including Dom's blanket, Richee's cardigan, two sweaters, and a couple of miscellaneous projects, I put my foot down and resolved to finish the projects I was working on and keep only a maintainable number of projects going at once. I finished Dom's blanket first, and, liking the feeling of having that huge project out of the way after it had dragged on for months, I resolved to finish my green blanket once and for all so I could enjoy it properly. I finished it fairly quickly after that. It is probably my favorite knitted article so far. I dearly love my Compo hat and Obama sweater, but this one is not restricted to cold weather. There's something indescribably wonderful about a nice snuggly blanket to cuddle under on the couch.
