Like the trellis rib cap, I based the pattern for this cap off a sweater I knitted when I was going to UT. I was a relatively new knitter at the time, unused to altering patterns, and the sweater came out too big for me. I thought about frogging it but decided against it and donated it to Goodwill. I liked the basic pattern, though, so I saved it so I could eventually remake the sweater. Then, when I started PAWP, I decided to use the pattern for one of my projects. I used a different yarn and thusly a different needle size, worked it in the round, and adjusted the pattern so that the basketweave squares would decrease in both width and height at the decreases.
