When I bought a new red coat, I could no longer wear my favorite red mittens—which were in fact my only mittens—because they would clash horribly. Thusly, I made the Bulky Mittens in black and decided to knit a black scarf to go with them. Then, even though I already had a black beret, I decided to knit one of the same yarn just so the whole set would match. I had not knitted a beret before, so I scoured the Internet for patterns. Most of what I found wouldn't work with my yarn, or else I didn't like the pattern. I modified a pattern I found on the Lion Brand site to create this.
