I based this pattern on a stitch pattern I'd seen in a book of sampler afghans once. I thought the double parallelograms looked vaguely leaf-like, so I opted to make this hat in a mossy green yarn. Knit it in any color you like, but something light enough to show off the pattern would work best.
I adapted the pattern for a hat by changing the number of stitches, adding a garter stitch brim, calculating the decreases for the crown, and working it in the round. Then I decided I didn't like the decreases worked in the pattern and worked the decreases in garter stitch instead. I much preferred that style and cited it as the first style of decreases in the pattern. I went ahead and included the other style in the pattern, just in case anyone wanted to use it, but I wouldn't recommend it. It looks like a jumbled mess to me. The garter stitch decreases have a neat geometry to them that shows up better when the cap is being worn, thusly this cap has several accompanying photographs.
