New York Yankees Hat

In the December of 2009, I met an astronomer from New York who loved baseball, particularly the Yankees. I was working on the Milky Way hat at the time and having trouble with it, so I decided to frog it and start over. I needed to experiment with the guage before doing so and decided my best option was to make a plain hat sans pattern. I began knitting a plain, navy blue hat and then, upon realizing I'd have a throwaway hat, decided to make it more interesting. Knowing that the Yankees logo was navy and white and wouldn't take many stitches, it seemed the obvious choice. I found at least two Yankees logo patterns on the web, but one was too big, and the other was rather muddled looking. I scrapped both and designed my own, which wound up almost identical to one of the ones I found. Whatever. (The same thing happened with the Obama sweater and the Obama hat, actually.)

I knitted the hat in a day and a half, which only took that long because I fucked up the logo twice, which tends to happen a lot. Nevertheless, upon tweaking it a bit and weaving in the loose ends, I was quite pleased with the result. I presented the hat to the astronomer a few days later, and he was reluctant to accept it at first, but I insisted on the grounds that I'm not much of a baseball fan.
