I learned how to knit in the summer of 2002. Over the following eight years, I amassed a yarn stash that filled twelve wire baskets to bursting. I often thought of projects to get rid of some the yarn, but I didn't get around to actually doing it until the summer of 2010. As I was leaving Bass Concert Hall after a load in one day in the summer of 2010, I got talking to the master carpenter, Hank Schwemmer. One thing led to another, and I offered to knit him something. I looked through my yarn stash at home later, wondering if whatever I knitted him could be made with existing scrap yarn. I noted irritably that I probably had enough scrap yarn to knit something for every stagehand in the place. Then I thought, 'Why the hell not?'which, incidentally, is not the best motto when considering a project of this scope, but it's too late now. I decided I'd knit a bunch of hats, socks, and scarves; put them all in a box; and then take the box to Bass when the weather started cooling off, giving Hank Schwemmer dibs since he gave me the idea.
It occurred to me that small projects would knit up so quickly that I could probably do at least one a week, even if I got busy with work. I decided to have some fun with it and design a different pattern for every project I created, thusly the name of this project.
After the first few projects, I changed the scope and goal of PAWP. I realized that, due to carpal tunnel syndrome, I would be unable to keep up with much of the actual knitting. I posted the patterns weekly anyway, resolving to catch up with the knitting when my wrists would permit it. Also, I discovered that I had enough yarn to take me well into the new year, so I wouldn't be done with knitting through my stash by the end of the year. To complicate matters further, I began work on Dom's Blanket II which took precedence over my other projects. Blankets take a while to knit, and I swore I wouldn't work on anything else other than Hank's hat while I was working on Dom's blanket.
likely not be able to bring the completed projects to work around the new year as planned, but rather later on.
