Since my dad's side of the family is mostly Irish, I've always been captivated by all things Irish. Many Celtic knitting patterns incorporate cables to represent Celtic knots, and while I've knitted many cabled items, I haven't yet made anything incorporating the colors of the Irish tricolor. Frankly, I could do without the orangenot so much because I dislike orange (although I'm not fond of it), but rather because it symbolizes the Orange Institution, which I believe is sectarian, triumphalist, and supremacist. Then again, most of the politics involved are religious in nature, and I'm an atheist, and I also don't live in Ireland. So I'll ignore the politics and enjoy the representation of my family heritage. |
