I've always been a fan of the Muppets, but it never would have occurred to me to knit anything relating to them. Then, in the fall of 2007, I met the Security Guard, who asked me to knit him a scarf in Kermit green. I bought the yarn, but I never knitted the scarf. Had I thought more highly of him, I suppose I would have knitted it anyway, but no matter. The yarn sat abandoned in my stash for the next two and a half years, until I got the idea for PAWP. Then I decided to do something with it, and of course a scarf with some kind of Kermit motif popped instantly into my head. I decided that rather than knit a plain scarf in Kermit green, I'd make it extra Kermit-y by adding fringe to it in the pattern of Kermit's collar. The manner in which to do this, of course, was a bit tricky. I nearly gave up altogether (I nearly designed a chevron pattern instead), but then I realized I could make a tube scarf and work the ends like the fingers of gloves, decreasing as I had with the ears of the cat ears hat. |
