Dead Kennedys Shirt

I've been a fan of the Dead Kennedys and Jello Biafra for many years now. Aside from the music itself, I've always admired their political views and especially their refusal to suck up to corporate bigwigs. Jello Biafra encompasses what a punk musician should be; stressing change and caring rather than trivialities like outrageous hairstyles.

I also especially like their logo; it's clever and easy to doodle. Naturally, I long planned to knit something with that logo, but it was a matter of designing a pattern for it. When I decided to make the Obama sweater, I realized I could use the circle for its background as a basis for this logo. I printed out some knitter's graph paper and tweaked the circle a bit. Then I cheated by holding the paper up to the monitor over a blown up picture of the logo and using that largely as the basis for the pattern. I was quite pleased with the results since my earlier sketches had looked terrible.

Anyway, I didn't have to buy much yarn for this project since I already had a lot of Lion Brand Microspun leftover from some long-abandoned, long-forgotten project. By a terrific coincidence, it was the same colors I'd need for the shirt.
