Obama Sweater

Obama sweater

As probably everyone who knows me or has read any of this site at all knows, I'm a rabid leftist and love to knit. Thusly, it seemed natural to combine the two, and I made first an Obama hat for my old roommate, and then I designed an Obama sweater for myself.

I decided to make the sweater relatively feminine or at least fitted, since I was tired of bulky sweaters that hid my shape. I thought about making it with an open back or lace up sides or something, but I'm a bit too modest for that; not to mention that would limit the places I could wear it. So I decided instead to just make it fitted with a little waist shaping, and I struggled with several different patterns before finally settling on one. The sweater is fairly close-fitting, with Senator President (HA!) Obama's logo on the front.

I finished the sweater on Inauguration Day and put it on while I watched the ceremony. I started to tear up, but then Roberts fucked up the oath, which made me burst out laughing and ruined it. I wore the sweater almost daily for the next month and collected compliments every time—and still do, even now that I've had it a while and it's starting to show some wear and tear (as evinced by the photo).
