November 9Still Stuck with Perry So we're stuck with another four years of Rick Perry's secessionist blathering, bribe taking, and trying to teach intelligent design in schools. And if you're going to say "You act like he's the whole problem and changing the governor would change everything else," as one person already said, shut the fuck up. I know that crazy people are still out there, but yes, changing the governor would change at least some of those problems; for a start, it would strip Perry of his pulpit. And another thing. I wore my Obama sweater on Election Day, and somebody I work with said she doesn't vote at all. Fuck that noise. If you don't vote, you don't get to bitch. At the very least, don't hate on people who actually care about the world around them.
Today on Meet the Press, Alan Greenspan and Newt Gingrich (among others) discussed the economy. Greenspan disagreed with what Obama said, that being that the economy isn't growing because businesses have learned to do more with less and thusly aren't hiring. Greenspan said the economy wasn't growing because businesses were uncertain of the future and were afraid of risk. I suspect they are both right, at least in part. Even more so, I suspect that no one knows the real reason, which is too terrifying to ponder. Bethany McLean, a contributing editor of Vanity Fairand co-author of All the Devils Are Here: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis went on the air and exemplified why I dislike Vanity Fair. She kept talking about how we had to fix the economy before we ran out of time, but she never indicated how much time we had left, what would happen when it ran out, or what we could do to stop it. Thusly I shall not be wasting any of my ever-shrinking dollars on her book that should have stayed in the slush pile. Then Senator McCain went on, not, luckily, making any inflammatory remarks about the President. He did suggest that we should not be leaving Afghanistan but should remain until we declared victory "like we did in Iraq." WTF. We didn't win Iraq; we didn't win shit. All we did was waste time in a country where we had no business and get a lot of people killed. How about we not listen to ourselves and instead listen to the Afghan citizens who want us to leave? How about we let them run their own country?
