Fuzzknot's Books

Books

The following is a list of my books in alphabetical order by author. Books by the same author are also in alphabetical order, unless they are part of a series, in which case they occur in chronological order.

The column titled "read" lists "yes" or "no" by each book, indicating whether or not I have read it. Obviously, I plan to reverse each "no" eventually.

The "notes" column, as you might expect, lists any notes I might have about the book in question. Most of the notes are positive in nature, but there are definitely a couple of exceptions.

Kerr, Judith When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit yes I read this book while attending a snobbish school, where one of the other students made antisemitic remarks about a friend of mine whose grandmother had died in a concentration camp. Salinger, J. D. The Catcher in the Rye yes This book had more impact on me than any book I've ever read. I heard it was a classic and bought it, expecting it be full of "that David Copperfield kind of crap," but it was delightfully different. It remains relevant to this day. It sent me searching for anything else by Salinger I could find, of which there was regrettably little. I read and reread the book, to the point that it looked fifty years old. In the end I wrote an inscription in it and gave it to Kirston, the only person in ten years of loving that book I really thought would get it the way I did.
Salinger, J. D. Franny and Zooey yes
Salinger, J. D. Nine Stories yes
Salinger, J. D. Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction yes I first heard about this book from Sachar's There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom, and I rediscovered the book when I was looking for Salinger books. This book, combined with The Catcher in the Rye, taught me everything I know. The former taught me to despise hypocrisy; the latter taught me to see the beauty in everything.

Sinclair, Upton I, Candidate for Governor and How I Got Licked no
Sinclair, Upton The Jungle yes I think I first heard about this book in a history class. Either way, I was inspired to read it as a result, and it was absolutely horrifying. It sums up the entirety of my suport for the FDA. I think it's possible that this book alone had a great to deal to do with my political sentiments.
Sinclair, Upton Manassas no
Sinclair, Upton The Millennium no
Sinclair, Upton Oil! yes Already being a fan of Sinclair because of The Jungle, this caught my eye in Barnes and Noble one evening when I was hiding from my grandfather. Or perhaps more accurately, Daniel Day Lewis's character from There Will Be Blood was on the cover, so I bought it. I set to reading it a couple of months later when I was trying to gain weight. I had to mix weight gain formula with milk and drink two of those so-called milkshakes a day. Milkshakes inevitably reminded me of the film, so I got the book out and was instantly hooked. It is definitely worth a reread.
